How ReadOnly Studios handles your information across our website and our games' online features.
This Privacy Policy explains how Vincent Lakatos, an individual doing business as ReadOnly Studios ("ReadOnly Studios," "we," "us," or "our"), located in the State of California, United States, handles information collected through the ReadOnly Studios website at readonlystudios.com (the "Site") and through the online features of our games (our "Games"). The information a Game collects depends on its online features; the Games we currently offer, and the features that apply to each, are listed in Section 2 ("Our Games"), which we update as we release new games.
Each Game's online features are also governed by that Game's End User License Agreement (its "EULA"), which is linked with that Game in Section 2. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the applicable EULA.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to Valve Corporation's ("Valve") handling of your information through Steam, which is governed by Valve's own privacy policy. It also does not govern the code you write in our Games: that code runs locally on your device and is not collected by or transmitted to ReadOnly Studios, and the terms that apply to it are set out in the applicable Game's EULA.

Our Games' online features currently consist of online leaderboards. When you submit a score to an online leaderboard in one of our Games, our leaderboard service receives and stores the following:
We do not collect your real name, email address (unless you choose to send it to us at the address below), precise location, payment information, contacts, browsing history, or the contents of files on your device outside that Game's own data directory.
This section lists the Games that have online features and the features that determine what information we collect, as described in Section 1.2. We will update it as we release new games or add online features to existing ones.
We use the information collected through the Site to measure traffic, understand which content and campaigns are effective, advertise our games and show relevant ads to you and similar audiences through retargeting, maintain the Site's security, and improve what we offer. We use the information collected through our Games' online features to operate, maintain, and display the leaderboards; to verify game ownership; to detect, investigate, and prevent cheating, fraud, and abuse; to maintain the security and integrity of the leaderboard service; to diagnose and fix technical problems; and to respond to your inquiries. We do not use our Games' leaderboard information for advertising, and we do not build advertising or marketing profiles about you ourselves.
We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. However, the Reddit advertising pixel we use — and, depending on how it is configured, certain Google Analytics advertising features — may involve "sharing" your personal information for "cross-context behavioral advertising," as those terms are defined under California law. You can decline or control these technologies through the choices described in Section 5 ("Cookies and Your Choices"). We share information only as follows:
When you first visit the Site, we present a cookie consent banner, and we do not set non-essential cookies or activate the analytics and advertising services described in Section 1.1 unless you accept them. These cookies fall into categories you can accept or reject independently: strictly necessary cookies, which are always active and include the cookie that stores your consent choices; analytics cookies, which power Google Analytics; and advertising cookies, which power the Reddit Pixel. The analytics and advertising categories are off by default and are activated only if you accept them.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by selecting "cookie settings" in the Site footer, which reopens these options. You can also control or refuse cookies through your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on, and manage advertising preferences in your Reddit account settings. See Section 6 for the legal bases we rely on for these cookies.
Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation or the UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
We retain accepted leaderboard entries for as long as the associated leaderboard remains active, so that rankings can continue to be displayed. We retain IP addresses and the detailed diagnostic submission records described in Section 1.2(d) only as long as needed for security, fraud prevention, and troubleshooting, and in any event no longer than 90 days, after which we delete or anonymize them. We retain ban records for as long as the ban remains in effect and for a reasonable period afterward to prevent evasion. For information collected through the Site, Google Analytics data is retained for the retention period configured in our GA4 property (currently 14 months), after which it is deleted or aggregated automatically. Reddit Pixel data is retained according to Reddit's retention practices, and cookie and pixel identifiers persist for the lifetime of the relevant cookie or until you withdraw consent. We may retain information longer where required to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect the information we hold against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
ReadOnly Studios operates in the United States. The analytics and advertising providers we use for the Site process information in the United States and other countries, and our Games' leaderboard service and the database that supports it are operated in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, including in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the information described in this Privacy Policy will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. For transfers from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom to the United States, we rely on recognized safeguards: Google LLC participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension, and transfers of Google Analytics data rely on that framework; Reddit, Inc. is not certified under the Data Privacy Framework, so transfers involving the Reddit Pixel rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, together with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum for transfers from the United Kingdom. By submitting a score, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States as described here.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of it, to object to certain processing, and to data portability. Residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have these rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR. Residents of California and certain other U.S. states may have rights under applicable state privacy laws. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To make a request, contact us at support@readonlystudios.com; we may need to verify your identity, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Neither the Site nor our Games are directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at support@readonlystudios.com and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and, for material changes, provide reasonable notice through the Site, the applicable Game, its Steam store page, or other appropriate means. Changes apply prospectively from their effective date.
